Albay

February 3rd, 2010 · Uncategorized |

Albay is one of the 6 provinces of Bicol region. Albay is filled with many natural wonders: waterfalls, caves, natural springs, beaches and marine life. The local cuisines are delectable, and for those who like to shop, there are fine abaca handicrafts, cutleries and ceramics.

Legazpi City, one of the most famous cities in Albay, has a beautiful skyline with the waters of the Albay Gulf on one side and the Mayon Volcano, a near perfect symmetrical conical volcano, towering over the buildings creating a majestic scene. It is a first class city in the province of Albay situated in the heart of the peninsula.

Legazpi was founded by the ancient settlers of the old barangay of Sawangan in the domain of Gat Ibal, a chief who ruled Albay. Spread in small groups of huts made of nipa and rattan, the small settlement occupied a conscription of low and swampy land known as Banuang-gurang or Binanuahan, which means old town or place in which a town was built.

Besides Legazpi, Naga City in Camarines Sur province, and Sorsogon City in Sorsogon province are the leading cities in the Bicol region in terms of urbanization and hub of the region’s economic activity.

Tourists are continually visiting Mayon Volcano, Cagsawa Ruins in Daraga, and numerous wonderful beaches in Albay.

Tourists or guests can even see the other islands that are far from Legazpi City. The view and the colder temperature can give tourists a relaxing time.

The tourists to this southern part of Luzon will not be disappointed, as there are many wonderful places to visit.
